As you probably didn’t even notice, I’ve been on a bit of a blogging hiatus since March. It was not intentional or calculated; this golf season has just been a bit different for us. We’re the parents of 10-month old twin boys, and, naturally, I have been prioritizing my awesome role as a new parent. In addition, my day job as an engineer remains busy and I’m trying to sneak rounds in when I can, which doesn’t leave much leftover time or energy in any given week.
The transition from squeezing life around golf to squeezing golf around life during the summer has been easier (mentally) than I expected. Parenthood changes your outlook in the best way possible. My game hasn’t felt as sharp as I’d like due to less play and practice, but my perspective has improved, so I still enjoy the game as much or more than I did when I could play and practice more. A bad shot or a bad round doesn’t get to me like it used to, and even if it does, the moment I get home and see my boys, I completely forget about it. What I shoot doesn’t impact how excited they are when I walk through the door. A good reminder that our scores don’t define who we are.
The good news is that Golf is Mental isn’t going anywhere, and there will be lots of content coming as life starts to feel a bit more normal with our new family of four. I’ve also spent some time recently getting a new hat design launched and restocking The Hat Shop. The arrival of new stock was timely as U.S. Open Week is upon us, so I figured it was appropriate to have a U.S. Open Week SALE to promote the new stock. Just use the super creative promo code ‘usopen‘ to save 25% on your entire order until Sunday, September 20th, 2020.
