Desert Willow Golf Resort is located in Palm Desert, California and offers two championship golf courses called the Firecliff Course and the Mountain View Course. This review is for the Mountain View Course, but you can also check out my review of the Firecliff Course.
I’m most impressed with Desert Willow Golf Resort as a whole. The two golf courses compliment each other nicely and provide slightly different levels of challenges.
Although still challenging and interesting, I found the Mountain View course slightly more forgiving off of the tee, and just a tad shorter, playing at a maximum of about 7,000 yards. Similar to Firecliff, Mountain View utilizes some strategic, penalizing and aesthetically pleasing bunkering, although to a slightly lesser extent.
The par 4 3rd tee shot:
The Mountain View course has less of a desert feel than Firecliff, and challenges you with more beautiful water hazards and streams. The greens are fairly large and undulating, while staying very fair and rewarding good shots.
Approach to the par 4 10th hole:
The Mountain View course offers the perfect combination of fun, beauty, and challenge. Our group truly had a blast. When the only complaint all day came from the “old guys” in the group that the font on the scorecard was too small, you know you’ve got a good thing going on.
We settled in for lunch on the patio overlooking holes 9 and 18 of Firecliff afterwards and were impressed with the food. The burger is to die for, and the portions were more than I could handle!
If you’re looking for a fun, beautiful and challenging course in great shape, I would highly recommend the Mountain View course on any trip to Palm Desert. I would consider Desert Willow Golf Resort a Palm Desert “must visit”, even if you only have time for lunch on the patio.
