After months of anticipation we finally departed Calgary early yesterday morning on our three month road trip in search of warm weather and green grass.
With a lot of ground to cover on day 1, we were optimistic about the road conditions we would face as we left Calgary with the highway and skies clear.
That changed rather quickly. We were quick to figure out that southern Alberta was pounded like a wiener schnitzel with a snow storm that left the highways extremely icy. Even the road signs were covered in snow and ice. This continued well into Montana after we breezed through the border crossing, and continued much of the way with icy conditions and sporadic snow squalls through mountain passes.
Slow and steady won the race, and 13 hours later we arrived at our intended destination of Idaho Falls for the night.
Although we hadn’t yet escaped winter, the big slab of saucy ribs and cold beer at Famous Daves next door to our hotel was worth the effort.
We set out on Day 2 in much better conditions and breezed through scenic Idaho with the snow at a safe distance up in the mountains.
As we’re highly motivated by food, our priority for day 2 (besides getting closer to green grass) was to scope out The Red Iguana for lunch in Salt Lake City that we saw on the show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Our server informed us that it is frequented by celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Santanna, and Morgan Freeman. It did not disappoint!
It’s located in a technologically advanced community that boasts color TV’s…
Tonight we’re hunkering down in beautiful St. George, Utah. We’ve finally escaped the snow, but are still in search of warmer temperatures. St. George has a plethora of beautiful golf, but it might be better left for a trip of its own in warmer temperatures as it’s still rather chilly here.
Tomorrow we’ll make our first multi-night stop in Vegas, baby! Should be easy to blow off some steam there and get into vacation mode, or so I’ve heard.
Don’t fret golfing friends, I’ll get a peg in the ground soon!

Josh, golfing in Vegas or otherwise? Quite a leadoff hitter either way; have a great trip!
Brian
Thanks Brian! Didn’t book golf in Vegas yet since we weren’t positive how the drive would be and how we would feel upon arrival. Will play it day by day there, but once we get down into Palm Desert and area for a while we’ll start playing every day pretty much!
Cheers
Josh
Enjoy the trip! Play as much as you can!
Thank you! Will do my best 🙂
