Okanagan Road Trip Update

Beth and I have embarked on a quick 10 day road trip out west to British Columbia’s beautiful Okanagan area.

If you’re not familiar with the area, I highly recommend you become familiar with it.

In addition to an incredible array of golfing options, the area is also known for beautiful beaches, wineries and orchards. At the moment, I’m blogging with a view.

En route from Calgary we stopped in Kimberley for 2 nights and had a fantastic time. We were pleased to have our friends at Shadow Mountain invite us out for another round, and I fell in love with the course even more than the first time I played. Stay tuned for another review, but in the meantime I highly recommend getting out there! It was Beth’s first time and she really enjoyed it as well.

Golf-wise I played pretty well despite firing an 81. I hit the ball well most of the day and had a terrible putting day, and the couple of bad swings I made really cost me.

Our second day there we were treated to a round at Trickle Creek. It was another beautiful course that impressed us both.

Often rated one of the top courses in western Canada, it’s definitely a no-brainer to get out there and give it a try. I am looking forward to posting a full review on it.

I continued to hit the ball well at Trickle and despite losing one ball and very mediocre putting I shot a 77 from the tips which felt fairly respectable for the first time out there.

From Kimberley we headed into Vernon, British Columbia where we touched base with my friend and golf pro Myles Johnson who gave us the 5-star treatment at both his home and his respective golf course, Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club. I never miss out on this course when I’m in the area and Beth has grown fond of it as well. You can read my full review on it here.

In typical golf fashion, just when you start to find something it often seems to take something else away. I started to feel more comfortable with my putter, but unfortunately most of the putts I made were for par as I was hitting it sideways most of the day. All in all, another 77 wasn’t the worst thing that could of happened to me. We got some smoking hot weather and had a really fun day. I even gave Myles a run for his money who was spotting me 6 shots and fired a “ho hum” 71.

Now we’re chilling out at the Island View Resort in Osoyoos with my Mom, the proud new owner. We’re blown away by how beautiful it is out here, no surprise that it’s very busy!

We’re looking forward to really unwinding. We took in some wine tasting and some beach time today.

Likely more relaxing on the beach tomorrow and really recharging the batteries.

Then we’re off to beautiful Kelowna for my buddy’s wedding on Saturday. The Harvest Golf Club is on the agenda so far, and I’m really itching to visit the Kelowna Golf and Country club as well but we might just run out of time. So much golf, not enough time!

Till next time…

Happy golfing, or whatever you’re doing!
